The Bezel Setting

In this art of setting, the gemstone is surrounded by metal all around. The stone is inserted below the level of the metal edge of the setting, and then the edge is carefully hammered over the stone with the help of a hammering tool. In this way, the gemstone is particularly well protected and has a secure hold.

The bezel setting can be open at the bottom, which allows more light to enter and gives transparent gemstones in particular a greater shine and more fire. This type of setting is often used for round or oval shaped gemstones and is very expensive to make.
